Debottam Bhattacharjee
About me: I did my graduation and master’s both in Zoology with a specialization on Wildlife Biology. I have always been interested in the field of animal behaviour. I had experienced behavioural work on different model systems as project trainee and finally got the opportunity to join this lab as a PhD student. My research interest greatly lies in understanding the behavioural
ecology of free ranging dogs in India. Here I am studying the feeding habit and population dynamics of free ranging dogs. The major evolutionary changes from their ancestor species, the gray wolves, the free ranging dogs have become scavengers and omnivorous in diet, which greatly affects their population dynamics. I want to see how evolution shapes these behaviour and what are the effects on their population dynamics. The different cognitive abilities related to feeding behaviour is also my area of interest.

Apart from research, my hobbies include swimming, gardening, driving, travelling to various forests and playing cricket.

BSc in Zoology, Presidency College, Kolkata (2008-11), University of Calcutta.
MSc in Zoology, Presidency University, Kolkata (2011-2013).
Joined the lab on 25th July 2014.
